Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) happens fast. A CT, MRI, or PET scan shows you have an aggressive brain tumor. Suddenly you have headaches, seizures, memory loss, and other mental issues.

Surgery is often done to confirm a diagnosis and relieve headaches, but doctors may not altogether remove cancer. Other types of treatment may include:
- Radiation treatment is used to decrease the size of the tumor further.
- Chemotherapy is used to increase survival time and quality of life.
- Steroids are used to suppress swelling, antiseizure medication to stop seizures, and pain medications to suppress pain.
Living with Glioblastoma
Even with aggressive treatment, few patients survive more than five years after diagnosis. However, there is evidence that medical and surgical interventions can increase life expectancy and improve quality of life.
A multi-disciplinary approach is essential for you and your family. This approach may involve:

- Psychotherapy and psychiatry
- Pain management
- Hospice care
